Anne is absolutely SAVAGE in the end. Mr. Elliot proposes and she’s just like “Sorry, not listening. Gotta run. After that other guy. Which is the person that’s most important to me. So, I’m gonna run. Literally.”

And then when Mr. Elliot reminds her of his proposal and she just goes “Oh, you said something? Yeah, sorry, I was way too busy to think about your proposal. Oh, look who’s here! The other guy again. Btw, did I mention that we’re engaged?”

*Chef’s kiss* Perfection. Never gets old. Anne’s done with all of their shit and I’m here for it. And always will be.

Also, Wentworth’s smile like a kid at Christmas when he announces that Anne has agreed to marry him.

On my seventieth reading of Austen’s Persuasion I am more convinced than ever that Admiral and Mrs Croft knew all about the Frederick and Anne love and they were matchmaking masterminds in the background. I mean they weren’t doing a great job but fucking hell they had an uphill battle with Captain Wentworth being a fucking moron clown in his dipshit self-delusion phase.

Peak mutual pining

Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth here having an entirely different experience from everyone else in the book with their unknown past relationship and guilt and resentment, feeling three times as much, 2/3rds of what they’re feeling at any given time is entirely hidden to anyone else, half of that is them being more tuned into each other than they want to be, all of the depth below Anne’s deceptively still waters, all the hurt beneath his charm… the doubt, the reconciliation! Truly no one is doing it like them.
